Der Herzschlag gehört zu unseren scheinbar getreuesten Begleitern. Er ist das am deutlichsten spürbare Zeichen unseres Lebens. Dem Herzen wurden im Laufe der Menschheitsgeschichte zahlreiche verschiedene Eigenschaften zugeschrieben, die alle mit zentralen Themen des menschlichen Seins zu tun haben: der Sitz der Persönlichkeit; Sitz Gottes; biologisches Zentrum des Körpers; Sitz der Liebe; das Organ, mit dem wir am besten sehen können u.v.a. Aber: unser Herzschlag ist fragil, abhängig von allem, was wir tun oder lassen wie kaum eine andere Lebensäußerung.

Der Mittelteil der Trilogie ECHO HOMO, der Film HOMO SAPIENS erzählt all das auf verschiedenen Ebenen: musikalisch, tänzerisch, pantomimisch. Er erzählt vom Ringen um Erkenntnis, vom Ringen um Nähe und Beziehung, vom Ringen um Gemeinsamkeit.

A heartbeat: our most faithful of companions and most evident sign of our living existence. Hearts have been ascribed numerous and diverse characteristics across varying cultures and peoples, but all tell themes of how it is a central character in our existence, telling us to “listen to our heart”, “open our heart”, “follow our heart” – it is the home of our personality, the home of love, even the home of God for many; it is the biological center of the body and the organ with which we often best ‘see’ and ‘feel’ and ‘express’. Though as much as it is ascribed strength and ability our heartbeat is fragile, dependent on all we do and experience, providing incomparable insight and revelation into our condition.

As the middle and central part of the ECHO HOMO trilogy, HOMO SAPIENS tells the story of the heartbeat across diverse levels, in music, in dance, and in pantomime. The film tells of the struggle for knowledge and understanding, the struggle for intimacy and relationships, the struggle for commonality and unity – and, like our heart, it does all this without a spoken word.
